Even with powerful hardware, a computer can be slowed down if the hard drive contains too many temporary files or other unimportant data. If they are not deleted on a regular basis, you will find yourself without any free space. Find Junk Files will detect and delete any useless files on your local or removable drives. In this way, your free disk space will increase and your system will run much better.

Although you will have to buy a license, there is a trial version available, which can be used for 30 days without any restrictions. The installation package is 3.30 Mb large and the setup process involves the usual steps, like setting a destination path or selecting different types of shortcuts.

The software will scan a selected partition and it will display the results in a list, during the process. It can find all sorts of junk data, such as temporary files, logs and more. When the scan is complete, you can select and delete individual files or erase all of them with a click on a button, above the results list. When you launch Find Junk Files, the interface's Status section will be displayed by default. You can start scanning immediately by clicking an option on this screen or you can go to the Start Scan section where you will be able to make a series of settings, before starting the process. The interface's various sections can be accessed with navigation buttons, on its left side.

In the Start Scan section, you can target one or more disk partitions, removable devices or individual folders and set a series of exclusion rules. You can set the program to ignore read-only, hidden or system files, archives or directories. It is also possible to target files according to a minimum and maximum size as well as after and before dates or times. All these settings can be made by clicking check boxes or typing numbers in small dialog boxes.

The exclusion rules do not stop here. The software lets you add any file extensions to an ignore list or, on the contrary, add them to a targets list. The lists can be found in the Files section, where you only need to click a hyperlink and type the file's extension and a description. The files in the list can be targeted by clicking a check box, next to them. Folders can be added to an Ignore or a search list exactly the same way, but in a different section of the interface.

Additional utilities can be found in the Tools section. These will help you find and erase empty folders, dead .lnk files, strip Zip comments and much more. Two more features can be found in the Status section. One of them will delete all history files, cookies and other traces, left behind by web browsers or the operating system. The other feature is an active folder monitor which will track the changes made in a targeted folder.

Pros

The software features a broad range of utilities for cleaning up your hard drive. They are easy to use and they work very fast. The best part is that you can target specific junk files, according to different parameters, such as size, date, extensions and more.

Cons

There are not many colors on the interface. The dominant color is grey. Find Junk Files offers a fast and flexible solution for cleaning up your hard drive. Removing junk files which clog up your disk or performing other maintenance tasks can take less than a minute.
